Excellent internship placements representative of Dublin’s exciting political, literary, and business life are available to you on the IES Abroad Dublin Summer Internship Program. Participating in an internship not only allows you to develop an international résumé, but also fully integrates you into daily life in Dublin. In addition to practical work in the field, you attend an academic seminar for which you earn six credits.

Over the course of the summer, you will come to know Dublin's winding streets and unique charm.  The IES Abroad Dublin program offers internship placements in a wide array of exciting fields, housing in fully-equipped student apartments, and field trips. Starting at the IES Abroad Center, near St. Stephen’s Green, this program will help you to gain a meaningful cultural experience and a deeper knowledge of what it means to be a citizen of the world.

Internships may be available in:

  • Arts Administration
  • Business/Marketing/Human Resources
  • Journalism
  • Media
  • Museums and Galleries

Program Dates

Academics

Our mission is simple: to provide you with the best study abroad program possible—which includes the highest quality academic and cultural experiences.

You earn 6 credits for your internship placement and a corresponding seminar.

Placements include a 35-hour work week, as well as the 2.5 hour weekly academic seminar. You are expected to keep a work journal and submit a final report that analyzes and evaluates your activities performed during the internship in the context of management and organizational behavior.

Securing an Internship Placement
Internship placement depends upon availability, as well as your background and skills. Internship applicants should have excellent interviewing skills and prior coursework or work experience in the field for which they are applying. Final selection is made after interviews with the internship and placement supervisors in Dublin. On-site interviews normally occur during the first week of the program; actual placements begin the second week. Because internships involve a third party, internship placements may be quite competitive and are not guaranteed in advance.

Housing

Our job is to make sure that your greatest challenge is deciding what landmarks to see first or discovering the best restaurants—not finding a place to live where you feel comfortable. We do our best to locate housing that is reflective of how the local students are living. Our goal is that when you leave Dublin, it will feel like home.

In Dublin, you live in a student apartment located in residental Dublin. Apartments are shared by three to five students, and consist of a fully-equipped kitchen, two or three bedrooms, and a common area.

Apartments are completely furnished and have WiFi Internet access. You are responsible for your own meals, and can prepare your own food at home or eat at local, inexpensive restaurants.

Student Life

Part of making you feel at home in Dublin is doing our best to help you feel safe and cared for. Whether it is an orientation program that makes you feel prepared, housing that is well located and comfortable, or the field trips that take you to places off the beaten path—we’re all about our student services. This is just one of the things we’re known for.

Orientation

You will take a guided tour around the IES Abroad Center and areas of interest in Dublin. You will be introduced to student life in the city and integration into Irish society and culture.

Field Trips

IES Abroad Dublin offers two optional three-day field trips, from which you choose one. These field trips are subsidized by IES Abroad, and you will be responsible for a portion of the cost. In past semesters, destinations have included:

  • County Kerry- Visit Killarney National Park, the Dingle peninsula, and other historic sites.
  • County Galway- Visit Galway City, the famous Cliffs of Moher, and the Aran Islands
