Program Dates

These dates are preliminary and are subject to change. Students should not book flights according to these dates.

Academics

Our mission is simple: to provide you with the highest quality academic and cultural experience abroad possible.

The IES Abroad Paris Beginning Language Summer Program is designed specifically for Beginning- and Advanced Beginning- level students.

You enroll in a 6-credit intensive language course that focuses on developing oral and written French language skills, and emphasizes learning through experiencing French culture in and out of the classroom.

Courses

This is a list of planned course offerings. After you are accepted, you will see a list of final course offerings in your MyIESabroad account.

Field Study

To supplement coursework, the IES Abroad Paris Summer Beginning Language Program includes field study visits to many sites of historic significance in Paris. Destinations may include:

  • The Marais
  • Montmartre
  • Notre Dame Cathedral
  • The Latin Quarter
  • The Opera

Housing

Our job is to make sure that your greatest challenge is deciding what landmarks to see first or discovering the best café—not finding a place to live where you feel comfortable. We do our best to locate housing that is reflective of how the local students are living. Our goal is that when you leave Paris, it will feel like home.

Homestays – You stay in a French home in the city of Paris or its surrounding banlieues (suburbs). You eat breakfast daily and three evening meals per week with your host(s). Other meals are available at university cafeterias and inexpensive restaurants. You have the option to request a typical homestay placement, or a placement in a chambre de bonne.

Apartments – A limited number of apartments are available for an additional fee. Internet access is available via Ethernet cable. Rooms are single studios, and each apartment has a private bathroom and small kitchenette. An IES Abroad Resident Assistant lives on-site. Meals are not included.

Student Life

Part of making you feel at home in Paris is doing our best to help you feel safe and cared for. Whether it is an orientation program that makes you feel prepared, your housing that is well-located and comfortable, or field trips that take you to places off the beaten path—we’re all about our student services. This is just one of the things we’re known for.

Orientation

Upon arrival in Paris, you will participate in a two-day orientation that includes:

  • A Paris city tour
  • A visit to the famous Musée d'Orsay
  • Introductory sessions on housing, transportation and health & safety

Field Trips

IES Abroad sponsored field trips are included in the program fee. Past field trips include:

  • Normandy - You spend the day visiting the beaches of Normandy, the Peace Museum in the city of Caen, and the D-Day Museum in Arromanches.
  • Châteaux of Fontainebleau and Vaux-le-Vicomte - You spend the day visiting these famous chateaux near Paris.
