The IES Abroad UK Today Program provides you with the opportunity to explore the vibrant culture and rich heritage of contemporary London. IES Abroad offers a unique academic experience, integrating field study into virtually all courses to maximize the many opportunities for learning that London presents. All IES Abroad courses are taught by distinguished British and international faculty. You also benefit from free access to the University of London’s Senate House Library.
You enroll in six credits and choose from an array of challenging courses in disciplines such as Art History, British Literature, History, Political Science, Sociology, and Theater. All IES Abroad courses are taught by British and international faculty, who follow the British approach to instruction, whereby students are expected to supplement lectures with reading.

You take two courses for a total of 6 credits.

Field study integrates the city of London into your formal classroom study, including performances at London’s West End and fringe theaters, a tour of London’s East End, and architectural walking tours.
A portion of the cost of the field study excursions is subsidized by IES Abroad, but some may require additional fees.
Our job is to make sure that your greatest challenge is deciding what landmarks to see first or discovering the best café—not finding a place to live where you feel comfortable. We do our best to locate housing that is reflective of how the local students are living. Our goal is that when you leave London, it will feel like home.
Nido Spitalfields Residence Hall – This new international students’ residence hall is located in central London. You and another student will share a two-bedroom apartment with individual bedrooms, shared bathroom facilities and a fully-equipped kitchen (there are no dining hall services). Bed linens are provided, but you’re responsible for your towels.
There are laundry facilities and common areas with wireless Internet (and 24-hour Internet access in your room) on various floors of the residence hall, and you will have access to the fitness facility (with a one-time induction fee) located in the building. Orientation for the IES Abroad London UK Today Program takes place the first few days after arrival and typically consists of:
Optional Field Trips IES Abroad London organizes a number of optional field trips as an integral part of its opportunities for cultural immersion in Britain. These trips explore areas of significant regional interest, and are led by faculty or experts who contextualize what you are witnessing and experiencing.

Stonehenge, Salisbury and Bath
Brighton
East Sussex
Stratford-Upon-Avon and Kenilworth Castle
Students share the cost of these trips with IES Abroad.
Cultural Events Additionally, IES Abroad London staff members arrange for student attendance at special events. In recent years, students attended a football (soccer) match at local team Fulham FC and watched world class tennis at Wimbledon.
The IES Abroad London Center, situated in the central London neighborhood of Bloomsbury, is a two-minute walk from the British Museum.

John OckeyIES Abroad Director John brings over 12 years of experience with IES Abroad, including seven years with IES Abroad Milan and nearly three years with IES Abroad Siena before coming to IES Abroad London. During his time in Siena, John developed and implemented a banner program with a strong focus on cultural immersion and academic rigor. In Milan, he played a key role in improving and developing the Milan program, notably in the areas of student housing, student activities, orientation, and supervision of the student services staff. Prior to working for IES Abroad, John received his undergraduate and graduate degrees in Italian Literature and Art History from Brigham Young University and worked in Geneva for the United Nations.
