The IES Abroad Dublin Irish General Studies Summer Program is designed to give you intensive academic exposure to Ireland's political and social history, contemporary economic issues, and literary heritage. By combining coursework at the IES Abroad Dublin Center with study outside the classroom, you have the opportunity to discover the rich heritage of Ireland, as well as its contemporary culture through its art, theater, and film.

Over the course of the summer, you will come to know Dublin's winding streets and unique charm. The Dublin Irish General Studies Summer program offers enrollment in IES Abroad courses, housing in fully-equipped student apartments, and field trips. Starting at the IES Abroad Center, near St. Stephen’s Green, this program will help you to gain a meaningful cultural experience and a deeper knowledge of what it means to be a citizen of the world.

Program Dates

These dates are preliminary and are subject to change. Students should not book flights according to these dates.

Academics

Our mission is simple: to provide you with the best study abroad program possible—which includes the highest quality academic and cultural experiences.

You enroll in two area studies courses for a total of 6 credits.

Courses

This is a list of planned course offerings. After you are accepted, you will see a list of final course offerings in your MyIESabroad account.

Field Study

IES Abroad Dublin organizes field study trips that complement what you’re learning in the classroom, and contribute to your general knowledge of Irish culture and society.

Housing

Our job is to make sure that your greatest challenge is deciding what landmarks to see first or discovering the best restaurants—not finding a place to live where you feel comfortable. We do our best to locate housing that is reflective of how the local students are living. Our goal is that when you leave Dublin, it will feel like home.

In Dublin, you live in a student apartment located in residental Dublin. Apartments are shared by three to five students, and consist of a fully-equipped kitchen, two or three bedrooms, and a common area.

Apartments are completely furnished and have WiFi Internet access. You are responsible for your own meals, and can prepare your own food at home or eat at local, inexpensive restaurants.

Student Life

Part of making you feel at home in Dublin is doing our best to help you feel safe and cared for. Whether it is an orientation program that makes you feel prepared, housing that is well located and comfortable, or the field trips that take you to places off the beaten path—we’re all about our student services. This is just one of the things we’re known for.

Orientation

You will take a guided tour around the IES Abroad Center and areas of interest in Dublin. You will be introduced to student life in the city and integration into Irish society and culture.

Field Trips

IES Abroad Dublin offers two optional three-day field trips, from which you choose one. These field trips are subsidized by IES Abroad, and you will be responsible for a portion of the cost. In past semesters, destinations have included:

  • County Kerry- Visit Killarney National Park, the Dingle peninsula, and other historic sites.
  • County Galway- Visit Galway City, the famous Cliffs of Moher, and the Aran Islands.
