Argentine Foreign Relations In The Americas And The World
The course is organized around three main subjects: Argentina´s bilateral relations with other American countries, namely: the US, Brazil, and Chile; Argentina´s bilateral relations with European countries, especially with the United Kingdom; and Argentina´s multilateral relations with the rest of the world. In relation to each of these subjects, particular cases will be analyzed in depth, some of which require major consideration due to their profound impact in the history of Argentine international relations.

Students are expected to gain a basic understanding of the main problems of Argentina's foreign policy and realize Argentina's place in the international stage. Students are also supposed to achieve a critical opinion about the different alternatives given Argentina's own history and its place in worldwide history.
For each class there is required literature indicated in the schedule. It is strongly recommended to read this material in advance. All reading material will be available in Moodle.
Mid-term test and a reading guide (30% of the final grade). Final exam: an essay (40% of the final grade). Reports, follow-up, and participation (30% of the final grade): Students will have to write several short reports throughout the semester. Class participation is mandatory.
This course follows IES Buenos Aires policies regarding attendance, available at the Academic guidebook. More than four unexcused absences will result in failure, regardless of the student‟s prior standing. Absent students are responsible for acquiring relevant class notes and handouts from fellow students. Work assigned in a student‟s absence is not to be given a later deadline without prior agreement with the instructor (30% of the final grade).
