Description: 

This course will study the development of the 20th century novel from the traditional to the contemporary and will introduce and apply French methods of literary analysis. An analysis of representative works illustrating certain tendencies of the 20th century French novel, with a particular emphasis on the protagonists’ imaginary and realistic worlds and experiences.

Prerequisites: 

Good knowledge of French

Method of presentation: 

Lecture and discussion based on novels and critical works and oral presentations by students.

LANGUAGE OF PRESENTATION: French

Required work and form of assessment: 

Final grade based on an oral presentation (10%), class participation (15%), term paper (25%), mid-term (25%) and final exam (25%). Attendance is mandatory; one absence is allowed, and any unexcused absences will result in a decrease in the final participation grade. Make-up exams given only in cases of medical or family emergencies and with consent of the professor and administration.
