Culture

The beautiful, green city of Nagoya is strategically situated in central Japan with easy access to historical and famous places in the Kansai and Kanto regions. With a population of 2.5 million, Nagoya is the core of the third largest metropolitan area in Japan.

Among the city’s famous attractions are Nagoya Castle, originally built in 1612, Atsuta Shrine, and the Tokugawa Art Museum. Students also enjoy Nagoya’s four distinct climatic seasons. Nagoya is home to Nanzan University.

Destinations

Nagoya Castle [1]

The Nagoya Castle has existed since the Imagaya clan rulled the area in the 16th century. The Castle survived for several centuries until it was attacked during World War II. The Castle's reconstruction was completed in 1959. Today it is a museum dedicated to the Castle's history.

Nagoya Station & JR Towers [2]

The Nagoya Station is the largest train station in the world. In 1999, architects added the two modern JR Towers. The Towers, the Hotel Tower and the Office Tower, stretch above the station 800 feet into the air. Both feature fine restaurants and shops on the top floors that allow for spectacular views.

Atsuta Shrine [3]

The Atsuta Shrine was constructed in the first century and is one of the oldest shrines in the world. The Shrine protects the sacred Kusanagi Sword, one of the three imperial regalia. More than nine million people visit the Shrine each year, with the most worshippers attending on the conventional Japanese New Year.
