Overview

Located just 60 miles from the hustle and bustle of London, Oxford is home to the world-renowned University of Oxford, one of the oldest and most prestigious universities of the English-speaking world. Not only is there much to see and do on the University of Oxford campus, you’ll enjoy the nature walks of this very green city, stroll through town observing the diverse English architecture, and sightseeing such historic gems as Carfax Tower, the University Church of St. Mary the Virgin, and Bodleian Library.

Culture

Oxford attracts students from all around the world, giving it an international feel. Integrate yourself as much as possible by attending student functions, making connections with other students on campus, and going out with friends. If you put yourself in the position to meet people and allow yourself to relax, you won’t be disappointed.

In the past, our students have found sports clubs, church groups, and various university-sponsored organizations very conducive to meeting new people with common interests.

Destinations

University College [1]

University College is the oldest and largest of the 27 colleges at the University of Oxford. The college was built in the 13th century, and its medieval architecture is truly reflective of the period. Many notable people matriculated from the college, including our 42nd President, Bill Clinton.

Oxford Castle [2]

Oxford Castle was constructed in 1071 for William the Conquerer. His son, King Henry I, later inhabited the castle. When King Henry died in 1135, his daughter Matilda should have succeeded him. However, Henry's nephew, Stephen seized the Castle and the throne from Matilda. In fear, Matilda fled the Castle and crossed the Thames to safety.

From 1071 to 1996, the Oxford Castle acted as a prison.

Carfax Tower [3]

The Carfax Tower is located at the center of Oxford. The Tower's name was taken from the French word "carrefour" meaning "crossroad." The Tower, indeed, is a crossroad of Oxford. If one climbs to the top of the Tower, he or she will see spectacular views of the town.
