Description: 

Intercultural management is a global issue and the use of communication in increasing intercultural understanding has become a crucial component of international management. This course examines how to succeed in doing business with Moroccan, Middle-eastern, and African organizations. It will guide students through important social values, the nature of business in the region, and how to master their negotiation skills. Students will grasp the impact of culture on Moroccan management communication styles and examine the influence of western management conceptions. Students will also analyze special cases from the Arab world and Africa. The course will also include an internship research paper.

Prerequisites: 

Successful placement in the internship program.

Learning outcomes: 

 By the end of the course, students will:

- Develop a cross-cultural approach to communication management and learn about Moroccan, Arab and

African management communication styles.

- Understand the relationship between management communication and the institutional context.

-Acquire new intercultural communication competence skills that will help them better adapt to international organizational environment.

- Understand the influence of local culture on management communication in Moroccan Organizations.

- Identify and evaluate the impact of globalization on organizational communication in Morocco.

- Develop communication skills for managing conflict and negotiation in a different organizational context.

Method of presentation: 

 Interactive lectures, discussions of readings, student presentations, guest speakers, case study discussions, and internship research paper development.

Brief Biography of Instructor: 

Dr. Nadia MOTII holds a Ph.D in the field of human resources management and communication. Her thesis is about interpersonal conflict resolution in the work setting with emphasis on communication. She got a Master’s degree in human resources development and communication from the “AMERICAN UNIVERSITY” Washington D.C., School of Public Affairs and a bachelor from I.S.T.I. Brussels. She is a professor at the University Mohamed V-Agdal, Rabat. She has lectured in the field of corporate communication and intercultural management for over 17 years at the I.I.H.E.M. “International Institute for Higher Education in Morocco” and occasionally at Al-Akhawayn University at Ifrane and in other international universities abroad. She is a consultant at Amideast and provides trainings for the private sector in the field of human development and communication. Her publication regarding this topic is on “Human Resources Development International” review. Vol. 8; No. 4, 435-447, December 2005.
