IES Abroad is pleased to partner with Thomastik-Infeld, an 80 year-old Vienna-based musical string company, to offer $10,000 and/or $5,000 scholarships each semester to outstanding IES Abroad Vienna string students.
All competition finalists will also receive three sets of Thomastik-Infeld strings.
The competition’s 3- to 5-member jury will be chosen by Thomastik-Infeld and IES Abroad.

Eligibility:
Open to violinists and violists only.
Recipients must be accepted to and attend the IES Abroad Vienna Music Program and participate in the Music Performance Workshop.
Recipients must attend a college or university that is a Member or Associate Member of the IES Abroad Consortium
Former winners of a Thomastik-Infeld Scholarship are not eligible.
Return Requirement: If awarded one of these scholarships, at the conclusion of the IES Abroad program you agree to submit a 1-page statement about your experience abroad, including how it has affected you personally, professionally, and academically and how this scholarship supported your endeavors. Once submitted, this statement becomes property of IES Abroad and excerpts may be used in any/all IES Abroad electronic and printed publications. Additional details and instructions will be emailed to you after your program ends.
How to apply:
Apply for the IES Abroad Vienna Music Program (if you have not done so already). Apply online or download an application.
Submit the following pieces via fax or email. Faxes should be sent to 312.944.1448; e-mails should be sent to scholarships@IESabroad.org[1]
Music Performance Workshop Application (if not yet completed) - This hard-copy application is for students who have not yet been admitted to the Vienna Music Program. Admitted students should complete the application available in their MyIESabroad account.

Post a Performance Video to YouTube
Applicants must post a video (or videos) of themselves performing specific pieces with piano accompaniment to YouTube by the deadline given below. The URL of the YouTube video(s) must be included on the scholarship application. The contestant’s audio and visual recording must include the pieces specified below.

And a capriccio by Paganini;
And the first movement from any one of the following concertos:
