Siena's large, shell-shaped principal piazza is a favorite of tourists and locals alike.  Renowned worldwide for its beauty and architectural integrity, the Piazza del Campo also hosts the famous Palio di Siena horse races twice a year.

"I have to say that my favorite local landmark is Il Campo. It's the best place to take in the sun, the sights, and the sounds of the city. It's where you can indulge in the best ice cream in town or share a bottle of wine with friends. I've had numerous picnics on the Campo's cobblestones, the Torre di Mangia towering above us and the music of conversation, the Fonte Gaia, and pigeon burble all around us. The Campo is a lively and beautiful place at all hours of the day and into the night." -Kristin O., Hope College
