Program requirements:
  • 18 Years of Age
  • In good standing at your home school
  • Sophomore, junior, or senior standing when program begins. Some local university courses may not be available to students of sophomore standing. Please contact your IES representative for more details.
  • No previous German language study required for students enrolling in English-taught courses.
  • 4 semesters or the equivalent of college-level German required for fall or academic year students enrolling in German-taught or University courses.
  • 5 semesters or the equivalent of college-level German required for spring semester students enrolling in German-taught or University courses.
Required application materials:
  • IES Abroad Application for Admission
  • Authorization and Evaluation.  Your on-campus study abroad advisor will instruct you on approval for this program
  • Official Transcript.  Submit one official transcript for each college/university you have attended since high school
  • If cumulative GPA is below 3.0, the following additional components are required:
    • Professor Recommendation Form or Letter.
    • Personal Academic Essay.  The essay must address GPA, any particular academic challenges faced, and goals for studying abroad in your selected location.
  • For students who would like to be considered for the Music Performance Workshop: Once admitted to the IES Abroad Vienna Music program, students can access the Music Performance Workshop application online. Students are notified of their acceptance to the Workshop in Vienna, after an on-site interview and on-site audition.
