Program requirements:
  • 18 Years of Age
  • In good standing at your home school
  • 3.0 GPA or Better on a 4.0 Scale
  • Graduate students and continuing education students are encouraged to apply.
  • Credit for the internship must be granted from your home school in order to participate in this program.
  • No prior Chinese language study required.
Required application materials:
  • IES Abroad Application for Admission
  • Authorization and Evaluation.  Your on-campus study abroad advisor will instruct you on approval for this program
  • Official Transcript.  Submit one official transcript for each college/university you have attended since high school
  • Internship Approval Form.  Download the Internship Approval Form, print it out, take it to your on-campus study abroad advisor, and then send it to IES Abroad, per the instructions on the form.
  • Resume. Email your résumé to enrollments@IESabroad.org.
  • Internship Statement.  Submit a brief statement about why you are interested in the Shanghai Summer Internship Program to IES Abroad.  Detail your objectives, skills you hope to develop, and any special interests/goals that should be considered for your placement.  Be specific, but do not limit the selection to an organization or company as there may be special requirements (language level, skills, etc.) in order to qualify.  This statement should be approximately 3 paragraphs and can be emailed to enrollments@IESabroad.org.
  • Professional Letter of Recommendation. Submit one letter of professional reference to IES Abroad.
  • If cumulative GPA is below 3.0, the following additional components are required:
    • Professor Recommendation Form or Letter
    • Personal Academic Essay.  Although there is no length requirement the essay must address GPA, any particular academic challenges faced, and goals for studying abroad in your selected location.
