Program requirements:
  • 18 Years of Age
  • In good standing at your home school
  • 3.0 GPA or Better on a 4.0 Scale
  • Applicants must be a major or minor in Theater Arts/Drama or have theater experience
Required application materials:
  • IES Abroad Application for Admission
  • Authorization and Evaluation.  Your on-campus study abroad advisor will instruct you on approval for this program
  • Official Transcript.  Submit one official transcript for each college/university you have attended since high school

There are two steps to the application process for the Gaiety School of Acting-The National Theatre School of Ireland.  All applicants should submit the following:

  • Abbreviated Curriculum Vitae listing performance history and special skills.  See guidelines here: GSA CV Guidelines
  • Passport photo
  • Personal Statement detailing reasons for choosing this program, academic achievements, performance history, special skills, and aspirations upon completion of the program.
  • Audition Video - this should include a 30 second introduction of yourself and the two pieces you will perform, followed by two contrasting monologues (each monologue no longer than two minutes).  Mail your DVD to the IES Abroad Chicago office. You can also upload your audition video to YouTube and send the link to enrollments@IESabroad.org.

Once this portion of your application is complete, your application will undergo a preliminary review.  Applicants who are successful in the first stage of application will then be required to have a phone interview.

  • Phone Interview - you will be contacted by email to arrange a phone interview with the Director of the GSA. You must be prepared to discuss the choices you made in selecting your pieces from your Audition Video. You will also be asked to discuss the role of the arts in general and specifically the role of theater in society as well as how you see your own place in the world.

If cumulative GPA is below 3.0, the following additional components are required:

  • Professor Recommendation Form or Letter
  • Personal Academic Essay
    • The essay must address GPA, any particular academic challenges faced, and goals for studying abroad in your selected location.
