Portfolio. An art portfolio is a small, representative collection of an artist's current or recent work. The art portfolio plays an important role in the GRA admission review process by identifying the skills, abilities, and potential of the student. The artist should submit the best, most recent work that represents his or her personal interests and abilities. It should reflect the individual's unique art background, experience, and abilities in the arts to date.
Requirements:
-
The portfolio must contain between 20-30 pieces of visual work, no more than three years old. Do not just send in final results. Initial sketches, ideas and plans can also provide insight into your work process. Types of work you can send: drawings, sketches, design sketches, sketch books, paintings, photographs, collages, graphics, textiles, garments, ceramics, items of jewelry, floor plans, models and texts if applicable. Please send photographs of large or heavy pieces. (Tip: put a pencil next to your work when you make photos of your work)
-
Make sure to include a table of contents and an explanation of the work in your portfolio, including a numerical list of artwork descriptions that correspond with the images. Information such as title, size, media, assignment or theme, if any, and any exhibition/awards may be included.
-
You may send internet presentations, video work and/or CDs/DVDs as a supplement, but NOT as a replacement to your hard copy portfolio.
-
- Academic Statement of Purpose. - Make sure to include the following in your statement:
- The department at GRA you are applying for: Ceramics, Fine Arts, Glass, Photography, VAV, Architectural Design, Fashion, Graphic Design, Jewelry, Textile

If you do not yet have a passport that will be valid for six months past the end date of your IES Abroad program, please submit this as soon as you receive your new passport.
- Optional but encouraged: A Brief DVD or Video (in PAL format). This replaces the required face-to-face interview required of all other applicants. Students should take this opportunity to briefly and creatively introduce themselves (1-2 minutes ONLY), highlighting their personality and giving any information that is not already in the portfolio, resume or statement of purpose.
- If cumulative GPA is below 3.0, the following additional components are required:
- Professor Recommendation Form or Letter
- Personal Academic Essay. Although there is no length requirement the essay must address GPA, any particular academic challenges faced, and goals for studying abroad in your selected location.
